“Women in the Twenty-first Century”
Introduction
As part of Ochanomizu University’s drive to educate global women leaders, we are delighted to announce upcoming lectures by Professor Dame Carol Black, Principal of Newnham College at the University of Cambridge, and Ms. Atsuko Toyama, former Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and holder of an Ochanomizu University honorary doctorate. Professor Dame Carol Black will deliver her lecture as part of the Tanner Lectures on Human Values, a prestigious series regarded in the West as being on a par with the Nobel Lecture series. This will be the first Tanner Lecture to be held in Japan, and Ochanomizu University is deeply honored to have been chosen to host the event. Both lectures promise to provide invaluable hints as to how we might break through social stereotypes to build a new Japan in which women exercise greater leadership, and we hope you will seize this opportunity to join with our inspiring speakers in considering the century ahead.
