According to the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2023, Japan ranks at the 125th, the lowest ranking ever recorded by the Forum. One of the main reasons for this is the limited number of women in leadership posts in politics and economy. This means that opportunities for women to play an active role are still limited, and the area of higher education is no exception.
To overcome this phenomenon, Ochanomizu University welcomes women presidents/rectors from overseas partner universities to discuss women's leadership in academia. An international symposium, entitled “Leadership and DE&I in Academia: Education in the 21st Century Envisioned by Women University Presidents,” will be held at Ochanomizu University on March 15, 2024. This symposium features speeches by the respective presidents/rectors about leadership and college education based on diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I).
Throughout the Symposium, we wish to provide an opportunity for the audience to enhance their knowledge about the diversity of leadership and DE&I and boost their willingness to become leaders in the future.
