Qualifications

The applicant must fulfill the requirements for both (1) and (2) below. Furthermore, the applicant must be a female who a) does not hold Japanese citizenship and b) either possesses, or is able to obtain a Status of Residence of “College Student” according to the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act.

  1. (1)The applicant must fall into one of the following four categories:
    1. The applicant has completed 12 years of formal schooling outside Japan or a MEXT-approved equivalent, or is scheduled to complete said schooling as of March 31, 2016.
    2. The applicant holds an International Baccalaureate from the International Baccalaureate Organization based on the Swiss Civil Code and will be at least 18 years old as of March 31, 2016.
    3. The applicant holds an Abitur that is recognized as qualification for university enrollment in all German states and will be at least 18 years old as of March 31, 2016.
    4. The applicant holds a Baccalauréat recognized in France as qualification for university enrollment and will be at least 18 years old as of March 31, 2016.
  2. (2) The applicant must have taken the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) administered by Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO).
    Please refer to the table below for the necessary subjects.
    Department of Physics candidates must also take the TOEFL exam.

Individuals who have graduated from a Japanese high school or hold an equivalent or higher qualification in Japan must apply according to the admission procedures for Japanese applicants.

Screening
Method

Applicants (except for those applying to the Department of Physics) will take the Ochanomizu University Entrance Examination. The results of this exam will be considered in conjunction with other submitted documents including the results of the Examination for Japanese University Admission and the transcript from the last school attended. Candidates for the Department of Physics will be considered based on submitted documents including results of the Examination for Japanese University Admission, the TOEFL score, and the transcript from the last school attended.

Application
Period

Applications are accepted by postal mail only.
Documents must be submitted in the period from Monday, December 7 to Thursday, December 17, 2015.
However, application packages that are postmarked Wednesday, December 16 or earlier and sent by registered express will be accepted even if they arrive after the application period has closed.

Lectures for undergraduate programs at Ochanomizu University are conducted in Japanese. Individuals who wish to enroll as an undergraduate student must acquire sufficient competence in Japanese prior to admission. Interested applicants should confirm whether they meet the conditions to apply to Ochanomizu University.

(3) Proficiency Test (for the Department of Performing Arts only)

(4) Oral Exam

Every faculty (except for the Department of Physics in the Faculty of Science) will administer an oral exam.

(5) TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) requirements:

For Department of Physics candidates, Ochanomizu University does not require candidates to take the academic achievement test. However, a TOEFL examination is required.

How to submit a test score

  1. Take the necessary procedures to have ETS (the organization that administers TOEFL) deliver your official score directly to Ochanomizu University.
  2. The institution code for Ochanomizu University is 7224. No additional department codes are needed. If you indicate our institution code when registering for TOEFL, your official test score will be sent directly to us. For the Writing Section, ETS takes about two weeks to send out scores for iBT (Internet-based) exams and about five weeks for pBT (paper-based) exams.
  3. If the test score is not directly sent to Ochanomizu University,you need to contact ETS for issuing the official scorre.

Period of Validity

Test Results arriving at Ochanomizu University between April 1, 2015 and November 30, 2015 will be considered.
